Malawi: Confident Malawi U-20 to Host Botswana
Blantyre — A confident Malawi Under-20 National Team hosts Botswana this Saturday in the 2015 CAF Youth Championship qualifier first leg match. The junior flames host Botswana at the Kamuzu Stadium in Blantyre.
Under-20 National Coach, Ernest Mtawali, told journalists in Blantyre on Thursday that he had a capable squad and that he was optimistic it would beat Botswana. Mtawali said all 25 players in the squad had the potential to perform wonders and that since they were all good players, it would not be easy to choose the best eleven.
"Our plans are that we shall try not to concede a goal at home. We are going with an ambition to qualify for the finals. We have very disciplined and courageous players. "We had 39 players at first, but we selected 25 to the camp. These players were selected on merit and not through favouritism as some quarters are saying. Malawians should come in large numbers to cheer the team," said Mtawali.
He said what was needed was to maintain the squad to ensure continuity. Under-20 Captain, Brighton Munthali said there was all hope that Botswana would be defeated on Saturday. Munthali said the squad was well prepared and would use tactics learned from their training to ensure they emerged victorious.
"Give us enough support in all the 90 minutes and we shall not disappoint Malawians. I am very sure we are going to use home ground advantage to beat them," he said. The junior team has been in camp for 11 days now. If the junior flames beat Botswana in the two-legged home and away qualifiers, they will qualify for the CAF Youth Championships scheduled for Senegal next year.
