Burundian presidential guard shoots himself to death: army spokesman
A soldier working in the Burundian presidential protection unit Sunday night died after shooting himself with his gun, the Burundian army spokesman said Monday.
"The soldier shot himself dead with his gun. He committed suicide at 21:30 at one of the military posts of the presidential protection unit," Burundian Army Spokesman Gaspard Baratuza said.
Baratuza said the victim had, in February this year, come back from a peacekeeping mission at the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).
"Circumstances on the soldier's suicide are not yet known, but investigations have started," Baratuza said, adding that the victim did not have any "mental" problem.
He said that the victim did not say anything before committing the suicide and had "good relationships" with his colleagues.
