Angola busy preparing 2017 general elections
Luanda - Angolan government is engaged in preparation of the country's 2017 general elections with some tasks having been completed, said the State Secretary for Territorial Administration, Adão de Almeida.
The official was speaking to the press after the Cabinet Council meeting held on Wednesday in Luanda, stressing that the working plan for the next elections, in terms of dimension, is quite optimistic.
With regard the competence of Executive there is a set of preparatory actions to ensure electoral registration, Adão de Almeida said.
Quoting the indicators and references available, the official said that the outlook continues pointing to
the third quarter of 2016 as the starting period for electoral registration, going until the end of the first quarter of 2017.
Adão de Almeida also highlighted the tasks related to dissemination of civil registration and identity card, underway in the country.
He also assured the completion of the tasks related to diagnosis of the current state of the local administration, with regard to human, financial resources, infrastructure and others.
On the issue of territorial delimitation for setting boundaries of constituencies, the official said
as soon as the law on political division is approved this task will also be fulfilled.
The State Secretary also said that on the task linked to promotion of debate on legislation that supports the local elections, the technical works are in an advanced stage at the headquarters of Territorial Administration Ministry.
"These and others are the tasks contained in the plan on elections, under the government responsibility, " he added.
