Angolan President Discusses Cooperation Development With Russian Official

Aspects related to the development of mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields between Angola and Russia topped on Tuesday in Luanda the talks between the Angolan Head of State, José Eduardo dos Santos, and the Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for the Middle East and Africa, Mikhail Bogdanov.

"I conveyed the warm greetings of the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, to his Angolan counterpart, as the Moscow authorities pay close attention to the development of relations of friendship and cooperation that have a great history and is based on respect between their peoples", Mikhail Bogdanov told reporters at the end of the audience granted to him, at Luanda's Presidential Palace by President José Eduardo dos Santos.

Mikhail Bogdanov acknowledged that Russia and Angola are currently experiencing socioeconomic difficulties, caused by low price of the oil barrel at the international market.

Mikhail Bogdanov, who is also the Russian deputy ministers of Foreign Affairs, expressed the belief that "with joint efforts, the two countries will meet and overcome these challenges.

"We know that Angola and its President are taking the right steps to overcome this situation", said the official, according to him, the two countries have huge potential for economic development to help tackling the crisis.

To the Russian official, the bilateral inter-governmental commission (Angola/Russia) allows, in detail, to discuss all matters related to the development of economic cooperation between both countries.

Still on the path of bilateral cooperation, Mikhail Bogdanov said, with the greatest wealth of both countries, the Russian people and government will continue to support Angola in the training of civilian and military cadres.

He considered the political dialogue between Angola and Russia "very active" based on mutual trust between the Angolan and Russian leaders.

"Angola is a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council and, in this chapter, we have close coordination and contacts at all levels", he said.

He stated that Russia has many companies in Angola and the cooperation is extended in various areas such as mining, telecommunications, exploration of outer space and energy, among others.

Between 14 and 15 April, it was held in Luanda the IV session of the Angola-Russia Intergovernmental Commission for Economic and Technical-Scientific and Trade Cooperation.

Still on Tuesday, President José Eduardo dos Santos received in audience, separately, the deputy head of the Burundian Head of State's Civil Office, Gabriel Nizigma, as a special envoy of the Burundian President Pierre Nkurunziza, with whom he discussed issues related to strengthening bilateral cooperation bilateral, and with the minister of Minister for Strategic Development and Nordic Cooperation of Sweden, Kristina Persson.
