Guinea Bissau to celebrate Eid El Kebir on Friday
The President of the National Union of Imams in Guinea Bissau has announced that the festival of Eid Al Kebir (Tabaski) will be celebrated in Guinea Bissau on Friday.
El Hadj Abubacar Djalo told a news conference on Wednesday in Bissau that the moon was spotted on 23 August in Gabu in the eastern part of the country and therefore the Eid would be marked on Friday, which corresponds to the 10th day of the lunar month.
He noted that the date was the subject of a consensus among all the Islamic organizations of Guinea Bissau, including the National Union of the Imams and the National Islamic Councils.
Djalo wished a good Tabaski feast to the people of Guinea Bissau, especially to the Muslim community of the country.
Meanwhile, the price of the rams has soared - varying from CFAF75,000 to CFAF150,000 in the country which has the minimum wage pegged at CFAF30,000.
