APA-Bissau (Guinea-Bissau) - The United Nations has called on Togolese President Faure Gnassingbe to mediate in the political crisis in Guinea-Bissau, the UN special representative in Guinea-Bissau, Modibo Touré, has said.

“We have asked Faure Gnassingbe [as the current chairman of ECOWAS] to help mediate in the political and institutional crisis in Guinea-Bissau,” Touré said after meeting with President José Mario Vaz.

The United Nations Security Council on May 12 had unsuccessfully recommended Guinea-Bissau President José Mário Vaz to appoint a prime minister, in accordance with the provisions of the Conakry Agreement signed between the parties to the conflict in Guinea-Bissau.
