Malawi Launches 2014 Racing Against Malaria Campaign
Mchinji — Deputy Minister of Health Chikumbutso Hiwa said it is everyone's responsibility to fight malaria as it remains number one killer.
Hiwa said this on Monday at Walilanji Primary school ground in Mchinji when he officially launched the 2014 racing against malaria campaign ahead of the World Malaria Day which falls on 25 April each year.
"We all know that malaria still remains a number one cause to mortality rates in the country and it is everyone's responsibility to practice preventative ways to avoid some of its preventable causes," he said.
Hiwa said Racing against Malaria (RAM) campaign is conducted to highlight the need for supporting universal intervention coverage in countries still in the malaria control phase.
"This also calls for eliminating malaria by 2015 in low transmission/pre-elimination countries in Southern Africa including Malawi," he said.
The roll back malaria campaign started last year in Tanzania and this time around, the final destination is Angola where the commemoration of the World Malaria Day will take place on 25th April.
