Botswana develops foot and mouth disease diagnostic test
Agricultural Development and Food Security Minister Patrick Ralotsia said Tuesday that the Botswana Institute for Technology Research and Innovation has developed a foot and mouth disease rapid diagnostic test which is expected to help in the fight against the disease that ravages the country’s cattle every year.
Responding to a question in Parliament, Ralotsia said the kit was expected to undergo rigorous validation, proficiency testing and accreditation before it can be approved in accordance with international protocols.
He said once it met such approval, it would then be adopted accordingly.
The minister was giving an update on progress made regarding the development of the rapid diagnostic test which has been on the cards for some time.
